Pristips – UX

Lots and lots of used cars are sold on FINN.no. FINN therefore has a great deal of insight and knowledge about the Norwegian used car market – insight that can help both new and experienced car sellers set a more correct price, and get a more correct expectation. This is how Pristips came to be: Let’s give our insights back to the user, and help them sell their valued car.

Redesigning Pristips

We already offer help with pricing, but insights from our users tell us we evidently don’t do it well enough: We start freshing up our Car Valuation Tool Pristips, which has not been touched since 2018.

Speaking with our users, we learn that for the private seller, the research phase is the most difficult and uncomfortable stage of the journey to put the car up for sale. This is something Pristips and FINN can help with!

Through qualitative interviews, we identified several pain points that are not met today:

  • The market situation

  • Regional differences

  • How long will it take to sell

  • And how tough can I play?

And the importance of meeting them while researching, in a way that still leaves the decision making with the user – it is a very personal sale, so we need to treat it as such.

Facilitating for different users

Everyone is different, also car sellers. Some care a lot, others just want it gone. Pristips has therefore been redesigned to meet different user needs. We present the user with insights into the market, a better understanding of how price and time to sell are connected and help them find good comparable cars. If you want to dig deep, it is all here. But if the price estimate is all you want – go ahead and create that ad right away.

We hope that this will help make selling a car feel both safer, easier and more informed for anyone who wants to sell their car themselves.

Powerful Data Models

As part of the redesign, we also amped up our data models. From only price information, we also included information about other platforms, market insights, understanding price vs time to sell and better models for finding relevant cars to compare with. Making it possible to not only get a ballpark, but a detailed overview of the market you are entering with your sale.

Results

Through redesigning Pristips we were able to provide relevant data to our private car sellers, when they need it, in a more user friendly and intuitive way. By including prediction models and market insights we have catered for most of the user needs, as well as making the process simpler and more comfortable, giving our private sellers more confidence when selling themself.
